What is Quick Share?

Quick Share lets you quickly and securely share photos, videos, documents, and links with nearby devices.

What can I use Quick Share for?

Quick Share lets you send files between Android phones, tablets, Chromebooks, and Windows PCs. And with supported Android devices, Quick Share also works with Apple’s AirDrop to share files with iPhones.

Can I use Quick Share with an iPhone?

Yes. With compatible Android devices, Quick Share now works with Apple’s AirDrop to share files with iPhones.

How do I share from Android to iPhone?

First, the iPhone user must be within Bluetooth range.Additionally, they need to change their AirDrop visibility to Everyone for 10 Minutes. Next, on a supported Android device, open the file you want to share with the iPhone user. Then, tap Share, select Quick Share, and choose the nearby iPhone. The iPhone user then accepts the AirDrop prompt to receive the file.

Is this the same as AirDrop?

AirDrop is Apple’s file-sharing feature for Apple devices. With the latest update on compatible Android devices, Quick Share can work with AirDrop to enable file sharing between supported Android and all iPhone devices.

Can someone access my phone through Quick Share?

No. Quick Share does not allow remote access to your phone. You control who can see your device, and every transfer must be accepted by the recipient.

Is my phone linked or synced to another device after sharing?

No. Quick Share connections are temporary and end once the transfer is complete. Devices are not permanently linked or synched.

How do I control who can see my device?

In Quick Share settings, you can choose who can see your device - such as Contacts only or Everyone nearby - and you can change this at any time.

How do I use Quick Share between Android devices?

Select the file you want to share, tap Share, choose Quick Share, and select a nearby device. The recipient must accept the transfer.

Does Quick Share work on tablets?

Yes, Quick Share works on supported Android tablets that are running Android version 6.0 and above.

Does Quick Share use Wi-Fi or Bluetooth?

Quick Share uses Bluetooth to find nearby devices, then transfers files directly between devices using a fast, local, Wi-Fi connection. This means you don’t need to be on the same Wi-Fi network or use cellular data.

How far away does Quick Share work?

For nearby sharing, devices typically need to be within about 1 foot (30cm). When sharing using a QR code or link, distance doesn’t matter.

What types of files can I share with Quick Share?

You can share photos, videos, documents, links, and many other common file types.

Is there a size limit for Quick Share?

There’s no fixed maximum file size for Quick Share. How large a file you can send depends on the sharing method being used and the devices involved. Nearby sharing works best for large files, while internet-based sharing may have practical limits.

Where are files saved after I receive them?

On Android, files are saved to your Downloads, Gallery, or Files app, depending on the file type. The files you receive with Quick Share are saved in your device’s Files app under Downloads > Quick Share.

On an iPhone, when using AirDrop, files are saved to AirDrop’s usual locations based on the file type. (For example, photos are saved to the Photos app.)
