I noticed the same thing happening pretty frequently in repos I maintain. It makes keeping track of longer discussions extremely confusing. Until the UX is figured out, it would be really nice if I was able to, as an admin, convert a user's post to a reply on an existing thread. |

We have been using GitHub discussions for quite some time now, and users are consistently creating new threads in discussions rather than replying in an existing one. The reason for this is simple, there is a giant text area at the bottom of the page, which users mistake for a place to reply:
Compare that to the reply box under a thread which is very low contrast and quite small, and thus easily missed:
This causes a lot of confusion for new (and experienced) users, and it makes it very difficult for us to moderate a discussion. I would propose that the text area for starting a new thread is hidden by default behind a button, for example:
