Can never recover from "There was a problem completing your request. Please try again." #187995

This is a known issue where the chat session gets corrupted and starts returning Bad Request errors. Retry does not help because it keeps sending the same broken request. The only fix is to start a new chat or restart Visual Studio. Make sure both Copilot extensions are fully updated, since recent patches fix some of these problems. If it still happens, clearing the Visual Studio component cache can also help. |

To recover: 1) Close Visual Studio completely. 2) Delete the Copilot cache folder: on Windows |

GitHub Copilot(Visual Studio 2026) gets stuck in a state where it says "There was a problem completing your request. Please try again", (see sample logs below)
Options:
I have a number of GitHub Copilot chat sessions that are in this state and cannot recover from them. I can supply logs for all of them as I did not delete them.
Is this a known issue? Is there a way to recover from this state?
