Dear GitHub Support Team,
I am writing to report and seek clarification regarding an unexpected billing issue related to my GitHub account.
I have been using GitHub Codespaces under the free tier, along with the $10/month Copilot Pro subscription, which I have used for about a month.
I was informed that purchasing Copilot Pro would include a free 30-day period, resulting in approximately two months of access, with the expected billing date being February 12.
Around January 14, I began noticing unusual billing attempts. At the time, I assumed this was not an issue, as I was still within the free Codespaces tier and my Copilot subscription had not yet reached its billing date.
Today, when my Codespaces access ended, I attempted to make a small $4 payment to resume usage.
However, I was unable to proceed because my card—previously verified—was frozen by my bank due to repeated attempts to charge amounts far higher than I expected. When I tried to verify my card again, I was prompted with a $30 charge, which I do not understand.
To my knowledge, my usage was limited strictly to Codespaces and Copilot within Codespaces. I have not used any additional services that would justify a charge of this amount.
If I had not checked directly with my bank, I would not have been aware that such a charge was even attempted.
As a result of this issue, my work has been paused, and my remaining Copilot subscription appears to be suspended due to a billing problem I do not fully understand.
I kindly request:
A clear breakdown and explanation of the $30 charge attempt.
Assistance in re-verifying my card without unexpected charges.
The ability to pay the standard $4/month GitHub Pro fee so I can reactivate Codespaces and continue my work until my next Copilot billing cycle.
I would greatly appreciate your help in resolving this matter as soon as possible, as it is currently blocking my ongoing development work.
Thank you for your time and support.
Kind regards,
Zaidu
